USDA Releases Information On Additional Market Facilitation Program, Local Signup Starting Today

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue late last week released information on the $16 billion package to support U.S. agricultural producers, including a second round of USDA’s Market Facilitation Program (MFP). Previously, on May 23, 2019, Secretary Perdue announced USDA would offer a second round of MFP payments for eligible crops, including sorghum. The payments are a continuation of the government’s assistance to commodity producers impacted by retaliatory tariffs from traditional export markets.

MFP signup at local FSA offices starts today, Monday, July 29 and extends through Friday, December 6, 2019. MFP payments will be made in up to three tranches with the second and third tranches evaluated as market conditions and trade opportunities dictate. For more information on the MFP, including eligibility and how payments work, visit www.farmers.gov/mfp or producers can contact their local FSA offices.
