2025 Sorghum Harvest Update | Daniel Riffel

Posted on November 18, 2025 by Maddy Meier

Join Kansas Sorghum’s Senior Director of Communications Maddy Meier as she discusses harvest in Northwest Kansas with Stockton’s Daniel Riffel, who serves on the Kansas Sorghum Producers Board of Directors.

Daniel details the critical role of sorghum in his dryland rotation, not only as a reliable summer crop but also as essential forage and feed for his cow-calf cattle operation. Sorghum remains a foundational part of their farm, fitting perfectly into what was traditionally wheat-fallow country. Despite a dry start to the year, late-summer rains delivered a phenomenal turnaround. Daniel reports exceptional sorghum yields, hitting as high as 126 bushels per acre on his best fields—significantly better than recent years.
