Kansas Sorghum Update: USDA Estimates Booming Sorghum Production and Farmers’ Petition Process Opens to Serve on the KS Grain Sorghum Commission

Official estimates for this year’s grain sorghum production rolled out as USDA released its October WASDE on October 12. Reflecting a good growing season throughout the Sorghum Belt, grain sorghum production is forecast higher overall from last month.

Kansas is again set to lead the nation in sorghum acreage at 3.6 million acres with 268 million bushels of sorghum production this harvest season, up 13% over last year.

The Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission is headed by farmer-leaders elected by their peers to serve and invest resources to increase value for grain sorghum just as these commodity commission election deadlines in Kansas approach.
