In this Sorghum Update, Senior Director of Communications, Maddy Meier, unpacks the latest USDA numbers showing continued global demand for U.S. sorghum in the 2025–2026 marketing year. End of January sales climbed well above recent averages, with China re-entering the market and Spain emerging as a leading buyer, alongside steady purchases from Mexico and other long-time partners.

A large portion of reported sales currently sit under “unknown destinations,” which historically points to China-bound shipments. Recent trade engagement and harvest showcase efforts helped reinforce confidence in U.S. sorghum quality among international buyers.

While shipment pace can fluctuate due to vessel timing and logistics, export movement remains near typical levels. The takeaway: following Kansas’ record 2025 harvest, international interest in U.S. sorghum is holding strong and trade momentum continues this winter.
