Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission Announces 2026 Election Results

MANHATTAN, Kansas (March 23, 2026)– The Kansas Department of Agriculture has officially released the results of the 2026 commodity commission elections, confirming the leadership for the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission in Districts IV, V, and VI. These elections, held across the central tier of the state, ensure that the Kansas sorghum industry remains guided by the growers who understand the unique challenges and opportunities for the state’s sorghum sector.

The following commissioners have been elected to lead the industry for the upcoming three-year term:

  • District IV: Matthew Benoit, Rooks County
  • District V: Kevin Harris, Dickinson County
  • District VI: Nathan Kohls, Sedgwick County

“The strength of Kansas’ massive sorghum industry lies in its farmer-leadership, and these individuals volunteering their service to lead on behalf of their peers reflect a strong commitment to the future of sorghum in our state,” said Adam York, administrator for the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission. “I want to sincerely thank Matt Benoit and Kevin Harris for their continued leadership and steadfast dedication to our growers. Their experience is invaluable, and the Commission is equally excited to welcome Nathan Kohls to board of directors, filling the South Central seat vacated by Max Tjaden of Clearwater, who previously served two terms from 2020-2026. We thank Max for his service to the industry, as well. and we look forward to the fresh perspective Nathan brings as we continue to drive the economic viability of sorghum forward for generations to come.”

The newly elected commissioners will officially begin their terms on April 1, 2026. As members of a grower-led organization, they will work alongside their peers to foster continuous improvement in the industry and ensure that Kansas remains at the forefront of global sorghum production.
