Kansas Water Authority to Host Input Hearings to Discuss Water Policy; Funding Allocations

COLWICH, KS (May 28, 2024)–In response to Governor Laura Kelly’s five guidelines of the Kansas Water Plan, the Kansas Water Authority (KWA) has been tasked with developing a strategic plan to be implemented before the 2025 legislative session.

The Kansas Water Office states: “In support of the input from various state and local stakeholders for the strategic planning efforts, the Kansas Water Office, Kansas Department of Agriculture, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment are hosting six public input meetings across the state and encourage public participation at one or several meetings.”

The schedule is as follows:

5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Colby Event Center, Colby, KS
9:00 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Boot Hill Conference Center, Dodge City, KS
9:00 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the WSU Hughes Metropolitan Complex, Wichita, KS
9:00 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy, Salina, KS
2:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the SEK Impact Conference Center, Chanute, KS
9:00 a.m.-noon on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Burge Union in Lawrence, KS

Key discussion points will include three of the Governor’s Guiding Principles of the Kansas Water Plan, revolving around water needs within local regions, funding allocation priorities, policy updates, and more.
