Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission Seeks Communications Fellow

The Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission (KGSC) seeks a highly motivated and creative Communications Fellow to join our team for a twelve-month, remote fellowship (October 2025–October 2026). This part-time position (approximately 15 hours per week) offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural marketing, communications, and outreach while supporting Kansas sorghum growers.

The Communications Fellow will assist with content creation, digital marketing, stakeholder engagement, and campaign execution to enhance the visibility and impact of Kansas sorghum. The fellowship includes opportunities for in-state travel and provides a prorated stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging content for digital and print platforms, including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, and educational materials.
  • Social Media Campaigns: Plan, schedule, and execute posts on KGSC’s social media channels to promote sorghum market development, research, and education initiatives.
  • Event Support: Assist with planning, promotion, and coverage of KGSC events, meetings, and grower outreach activities.
    Stakeholder Engagement: Support staff communication with producers, industry partners, and media outlets through email marketing, press outreach, and direct engagement.
  • Research & Reporting: Gather analytics on communication initiatives, prepare reports on campaign performance, and contribute to communication strategy development.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous internship or coursework in communications, marketing, or agriculture is preferred but not required. Familiarity with agricultural industries or rural communities is a plus.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of AP Style.
  • Proficiency in social media management and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
